Elephant ear coral, unique reef architecture

Elephant Ear Coral rising out from the reef providing a home for tiny fishes. Elephant Ear Coral is a soft coral, however despite the name 'soft', corals from this family of soft corals are actually stiff, hard and inflexible. They are often located on wave-washed reef crests or deep down on steep slopes forming unique sea coral formations creating architectural marvels.

Toadstool coral springing out from the stony reef layers. Perched upon less distinctively shaped corals, it resembles a flower bursting forth from a sparsely covered field. Leather corals are a soft coral with the ability to fold into distinctive shapes, resembling tough leathery skin. However despite the name 'soft', corals from this family are actually stiff, hard and inflexible.
